Example Of a Day at Peek-A-Zoo Preschool

Theme: F is for Freddy Fish

8:00-8:30 – Learning Through Play
-At this time different areas will be set up to provide a variety of activities for the children to learn though play. Some examples are:
Math: Sorting fish of different shapes, colors, and sizes
Science: Observing live fish
Art: Fish-shaped sponge painting onto blue paperSensory Table: Fishing pond with plastic fish and nets in water
Manipulative: Fish puzzles
Writing: Simple writing page to practice writing “F”

8:30-9:15 – Circle Time
-During circle time I will introduce Freddy Fish, what letter he represents, and what sound he makes. I then will discuss how fishes live and their habitat and go into other words that start with “F”. Hands-on activities will be mixed in with songs and finger plays.

9:15-9:45 – Arts and Crafts
-Fish Kite:Children will be provided materials to create a fish kite.
-Fish Tank Cupcake: Children will be given cupcakes and supplies to create a Fish Tank Cupcake with teacher guidance.

9:45-10:00 – Snack
-Each day a nutritious snack will be provided to fit the weekly theme. On special occasions such as birthdays or a day we make treats in class, it will be used as the snack.
Today’s Snack: Fish Tank Cupcake and Milk

10:00-10:30– Physical Movement and Activity
-Jumping from the Fish: Blue fabric with paper fishes. I will wiggle the fabric and have children try to jump over the “river” and try to not let the fish bite them.
-Going Fishing: Catching fish with fishing poles. The fish have numbers and letters on them to help with number and letter recognition.
-Dancing to the song “Five Little Fish”

10:30-11:00 – Song and Story Time
-At this time children will have all their stuff gathered together and ready for pick up. We will sing songs and read books related to each theme while waiting for parents to arrive.
